How long will my razor last?
We all love saving money.
But how long can we expect our razor to keep its edge?
The length of time the razor will last depends on a number of factors.
Type of beards
One of the first things to consider is the type of your beard.
Do you have thin, easy to trim beards or dense hairs?
If you have particularly stiff, thick facial hair, you will likely fade the razor tip more quickly.
Also, do you only shave your face or do you use the razor on your neck and head as well?
Covering more area means more wear and tear on the blade and the need to change it faster.
However, someone with a tougher beard could particularly benefit from sharper blades such as Permasharp blades, Feather blades, KAI blades and Gillette blades such as the DE Gillette 7 O Clock Green and also DE Gillette Silver Blue shaving blades.
Shaving frequency
Another thing to consider is how often you shave.
If you are a daily shaver, then the razor blade will reflect that wear and tear.
If you only shave once or twice a week, you will find that your razors will last longer.
Of course we have a suggestion to keep both your traditional razor in excellent condition
and extend the life and sharpness of your blade with the Blador Blade Cleaner for Men,
which is a Greek patent and you can definitely find it in our store.
Special shaving blade cleaner from Blador.
It is well known that a deep cleaning of the shaving blades of both razors and ordinary razors helps to deal with accumulated dirt, which is not only unpleasant, but can also endanger your health.
Blador is properly formulated to keep your razors and razors clean, like new even after many uses.
The special cleansing formula cleans and removes all hair and any organic matter from the blades, and this way you can be sure that your shave is safe.
Type / Coating / Razor Blade Treatment
First, make sure you buy quality double-sided blades.
If you buy cheap blades that break quickly, you should change them more often.
Use high quality steel from reputable brands and you'll find a longer lasting DE blade.
Many companies will market their razors as Teflon coatings or hydrophobic like PRFE that claim to reduce friction yet not to improve longevity.
Razor blades made with coatings such as platinum, chrome, etc. may help them last longer.
You can read more in our article on the differences between traditional razor blades to understand what works for you and what works best for you.
Technique & Preparation
Believe it or not, how you shave can also affect the longevity of your razor.
If you take the time to prepare your beard by softening it properly, you'll find that you'll also reduce the wear and tear on your blade by making its job easier.
In addition, if you shave in the direction of the hair rather than against it, because there is not as much resistance, you will get more passes per razor blade.
Maintenance & storage of safety razors
Perhaps most important of all is to keep your razor dry after shaving.
The combination of water and salts from your skin has a detrimental effect on the razor blade , wearing down the stainless steel.
You can prevent this by rinsing your blade thoroughly after use, drying it and then letting it dry further on a stand.
Another advantage is to NOT store the razor in the shower.
It is also a good idea to store the can in a closed place where it is not exposed to moisture.
Moisture can seep through the box and wrapper and bump the metal.
If you absolutely must store them in the bathroom, invest in an airtight container.
How long will the razor last?
As we've discussed, the longevity of your razor blade can depend on many factors and personal preferences.
To give you a general estimate, most blades last about 5 shaves (give or take).
However, none of the subsequent times will be like the first.
It's always better to change the razor before each shave than to be unhappy.
