- Shaving Soaps, traditional shaving soaps
What are the best shaving soaps?
This is a question that has plagued those of us who have been involved in traditional shaving for a long time, but unfortunately the answer is mostly subjective.
There are many excellent shaving soaps, from many manufacturers, with different ingredients and methods of preparation.
However, many times a recommendation does not remain constant, prices change and some products do not stay on the market forever.
That's why we need to have some basics.
Some criteria that will guide our choices, for the shaving soaps we decide to try and use.
In this short list, we express some of these basic criteria that for us define a good shaving soap:
Have a good consistency
The ideal consistency obviously depends on many factors, such as the process of making the soap.
But if you have followed the necessary steps, then you should expect a rich lather that stays on the face and helps the blade glide with ease.
Feel good on the face after shaving
Shaving soap should not create a dry or uncomfortable feeling on the face after shaving.
If you feel that the shaving soap you are using is drying your skin and "dragging" it, then that particular soap may not be right for you.
This may have to do with your skin type.
But usually, a high-quality traditional shaving soap moisturizes and provides softness to the skin.
Variety in fragrances
If you find a good recommendation that suits you, another positive would be for that soap to come in different scents.
It is good to have variety and many of the top companies use the same formulation with a different scent.
Of course, this is not that decisive, since there are many soaps with only one fragrance but very good quality.
Availability
Practical factors also play a big role.
A soap which is readily available and on which we can rely is superior to the others.
There are many soaps that are hard to find in our country and very good in terms of quality.
Obviously it is worth trying them when we can find them, but it is good to know that when we want to purchase a product again, we will have the option.
The manufacturer's time on the market
There are many small artisan soap making workshops with amazing soaps.
But some companies in the industry have left their mark and have perfected their craft.
Knowing that the soap you use leaves a plethora of buyers satisfied and has a tradition is a positive thing.
We always support, if we can, new companies with quality products, but some choices are ultimately considered, rightly so, classics.
Price
Cost is also a determining factor.
Quality is important, but there has to be a balance.
The good thing is, with such a broad market there are good choices for everyone.
So that was a list of features we consider important when judging a shaving soap.
You will of course need to try different shaving soaps yourself and build up an image.
Try to find a soap that combines all of the above, tailored to your own preferences.
