6 steps to maintain your makeup throughout the day
We certainly all love summer days. But nothing is worse than coming home to a ruined makeup (sweat, humidity, heat) Here are six proven strategies to keep your makeup exactly where you want it.
Moisturizer, primer and then makeup.
- While the last thing you want to do is add more products than you need, when the atmosphere is hot and humid, professionals agree that primer is a must.
- They stress that an excellent setting primer is very lightweight and makes your skin feel like silk. Apply it after your moisturizer and before your makeup.
Light up your base
- Try to keep your makeup as fresh and natural as possible in any weather conditions, but especially in humidity. To avoid over-application, a simple daily BB cream is recommended.
Attention to your eyelids
- And your face isn't the only thing you can use primer on when the temperature rises.
- Eye primers are great for keeping shadows in place, especially those that have a tendency to slide, smudge or even run into your eyes - something that's very likely to happen when you sweat.
Creams, not powders!
- For warm weather, experts recommend choosing cream - and not powder - blush and bronzer
- It may seem strange, but these products are less likely to run off or melt and will add a cool, youthful glow.
- Powder can be one of the last steps in your routine, but it can also be the first thing to ruin a look.
- When you sweat, makeup can blend together creating a mass that ruins your appearance.
- If you absolutely want powder, transparent is recommended. An ultra-light, colorless powder is ideal for applying and refreshing your look without too much product buildup.
Avoid gloss (as difficult as it may be)
- On warmer days, it's best to stay away from sticky, thick lip gloss textures. When they're really bold they tend to look tacky and don't sit well. Instead, opt for lighter, non-sticky balms or some lip liner for a perfectly stable, summery look.
Makeup setting spray
- A perfect solution is that of makeup setting sprays. Three or four sprays is all you need to lock everything in place (keep the bottle several inches away from the face).
- Your makeup will stay put and you'll stay as glamorous as when you left the house!
