- hair dye, red hair
Red and copper hair dye are delicate colours and need more care.
So if you love red in your hair but hate how quickly it fades, the following tips will come in handy!
Give it time!
Wait at least 2 days after your dye job to wash your hair. If you wash your hair too soon after dyeing , the dye will not have had time to assimilate and the color will fade almost immediately. 48 hours is necessary for your color to absorb.
Ask your hairdresser to put the special ampoule for colour locking in immediately after your colouring. It is a must !
Withstand the cold
When washing your hair, prefer cold water, no matter how hard it is. Warm water allows your hair to expand which opens the pores of the cuticle. This allows the water and shampoo to penetrate deeper and rinse out more color with each rinse.
Cool water seals the cuticle and locks in moisture thus preserving your bright red or copper color.
And wash frequency counts
Try not to wash your hair every day. The more often you wash, the faster your colour will fade. Limit your hair washing to once or twice a week to preserve your bright red hair color as much as possible if your skin allows it. You can also use a dry shampoo to keep the freshness from being lost.
Be careful with your hair products
Use a shampoo and conditioner created for color-treated hair. Products for color-treated hair are non-alcoholic and sulfate-free and work very gently to protect your hair color.
They also contain vitamins and antioxidants that nourish and protect your hair. The gentler the shampoo the less it will disturb your hair color. Specially formulated products for color-treated hair protect the hair fibers and keep the color vibrant.
Don't skip the hair mask
Hair masks are one of the best ways to absorb moisture. So by removing the moisture, the color is kept alive.
Your hair is moisturized with the nutrients in the mask and thus the color stays strong and bright. Use once or twice a week, leaving it on for a few hours. This way your tone will remain deep. There are masks on the market with color, which preserve your color. Ask your hairdresser for it.
Keep out of the sun
The sun's rays are a serious enemy to your color. So try to avoid it as much as possible. UV rays can damage your hair and fade your color.
Wear a hat if you are going to spend a lot of time in the sun. It's also important to spray your hair with UV protection spray before you leave the house. This spray protects you from the sun, keeps your hair healthy and therefore your color.
Heat is an enemy
When using heat tools on your hair, such as a blow dryer, scissors, straightener, keep the temperature as low as possible at around 180 degrees. High temperature destroys your color. The heat can dry out your hair, which will make the color look dull and faded.
Conditioning is nice but it should not be done daily. The imperative solution is to first apply a heat hair protector, in the form of a cream or spray that will keep your hair shiny.
Avoid swimming pools and the sea
Once you have dyed your hair try to avoid swimming pools and the sea, at least for the first two weeks. Chlorine and salt water discolour your hair.
They also make it dull and weak, so your red colour will not be impressive. But if you want to swim, you can simply wear a swimming cap which will protect your colour, and apply the right products for the sea.
Constant colour renewal in your hair!
It's important to stay true to a schedule! You should not let your color go to waste. If you renew its vibrancy and shine by repainting it, your hair will get used to it and it will be easier to maintain its color. An ideal suggestion, is to refresh your dye every 4 weeks.
