Ardennes Coticule Whetstone Bout 8000–10000 Grit 6x5cm
The Whetstone Bout from Ardennes Coticule is a natural finishing stone ideal for razors, knives, and precision blades. Hand-cut from premium Belgian quarries, this Bout-type whetstone delivers an ultra-fine grit range of 8000–10000, perfect for the final honing and polishing phase.
Each Ardennes Coticule Whetstone Bout is unique in shape and texture, offering superior control and feedback during sharpening. Known for its garnet-rich composition, it ensures smooth, consistent metal removal while maintaining blade integrity — a favorite among barbers, collectors, and sharpening enthusiasts worldwide.
Instructions for Use
1. 🧼 Wet the Stone
- Use plain water only — no oil needed.
- Moisten the surface until a thin film forms.
- No soaking required, unlike synthetic stones.
2. 🌀 Prepare a Slurry (Optional)
- Use a small slurry stone to create a fine, creamy paste.
- Enhances sharpening power initially and softens as diluted.
3. 🔪 Start Honing
- Keep the blade flat, maintaining a consistent 15–20° angle.
- Use smooth X-pattern strokes across the entire edge.
- Let the Whetstone Bout do the work — avoid excess pressure.
4. 💦 Gradually Dilute the Slurry
- Rinse lightly or add water as you refine the edge.
- Results in a mirror-like, polished finish.
5. 🧽 Cleaning & Storage
- Rinse with water after use and let air-dry naturally.
- Avoid sunlight or heat exposure to prevent cracking.
❗ Tip: This Bout-type whetstone is designed for final sharpening and polishing — not for bevel-setting. “Bout” means it’s a naturally cut, irregular stone selected for top performance and comfort.
Each Ardennes Coticule Bout delivers consistent, eco-friendly performance with water only — no chemicals or oils required. Compact and durable, it’s the perfect travel companion for those who value authentic European sharpening craftsmanship.

Frequently Asked Questions
A lower grit number (e.g. 220 grit) means a coarser surface that removes material faster — ideal for repairing dull or damaged blades.
A higher grit number (e.g. 8000 grit) means a finer surface — used for polishing and finishing the edge to a razor-sharp level.
Garnet is a group of natural silicate minerals known for their brilliant color, hardness, and wide use in both jewelry and industrial applications.
Garnet is often used as the abrasive material in sharpening stones and sandpapers because of its durability and angular shape. If a tool is labeled as garnet grit or garnet sharpening stone, it means the abrasive component is crushed garnet — excellent for smoothing and honing blades.
