Steampod from L'oreal Professionel

The Steampod from L'oreal is here to teach you how to straighten your hair without damaging it, how to keep your hair straight for longer and how to make frizz disappear.

What is steam hair straightening?

Frizzy, unruly hair? Buns you'd like to turn into shiny long hair? If you've already tried a regular hair straightener without success, or are worried about causing too much damage to your hair, Steampod may be what you need.

A steam straightener is a heated tool that is different from the usual ones. It can look like a regular hair straightener, but with the built-in water tank, when you press the plates together on a section of hair, steam is projected through small holes to straighten the hair fibers. This steam works alongside the heated ceramic plates and can make the hair straightening process much faster, causing less damage.

Steam straightening vs. normal straightening

With a steam hair straightener, such as the Steampod from L'Oréal Professionnel, the steam diffuses from the plates and exhales water onto the hair surface before the heat and pressure are evened out. This moisture helps prevent potential damage caused by simply using a heat surface to push the fibres straight.

With L'Oréal Professionnel's Steampod 3.0, hair is twice as straight and straightening is twice as fast as normal. The heat from the steam and removable comb of the Steampod 3.0 means you put less pressure on the hair and for less time than with a regular hair straightener. As a result, thanks to the steam, hair looks shinier, fuller and is less likely to develop frizz and breakage. In fact, the new Steampod 3.0 reduces breakage by up to 78% compared to a regular hair straightener.

How to straighten hair and keep it straight for longer

Firstly, not only to avoid damage, but also for hair that stays straight for longer, always dry your hair carefully before styling. Applying heat protection will give the hair fiber a light layer of protective support that will help it hold its shape.

When it comes to the straightening itself, do it in small sections about 3 cm wide. Straightening your hair in small sections not only gives better results, but the hair is more evenly straightened and therefore will last longer.

How to avoid frizz on straight hair

Frizz occurs when the hair strands are not flat and smooth, and as a result the hair does not follow the other hairs, giving a messy appearance. This generally can be caused by dehydration, damage and even genes!

To avoid frizz, it is important to use the right hair care (shampoo, conditioner, mask) to enrich the hair with moisture and protect it from drying by using a heat protectant and, ideally, by using steam rather than traditional hair straightening. A serum or oil can also be really effective for hair that tends to frizz; simply pour a few drops between your palms and smooth over the lengths and ends.
