Backbone

In shaving brushes, “backbone” refers to the firmness or resistance of the bristles when pressure is applied. A brush with strong backbone holds its shape well and is ideal for lathering hard soaps and providing exfoliation. Softer brushes with less backbone are more flexible and better suited for sensitive skin.
