In traditional wet shaving, bloom refers to the process of softening a shaving soap by adding a small amount of warm water to the surface before use. This helps release the soap’s scent and makes it easier to load onto the brush. The term can also refer to the slightly softened, glossy layer that appears on the surface of the soap after blooming.
