Grit

Grit refers to the coarseness or fineness of a sharpening stone, typically used for honing razors or knives. A lower grit number (e.g. 1,000) means a coarser stone used for initial sharpening, while a higher number (e.g. 8,000–12,000) indicates a finer grit suitable for polishing and finishing straight razors.
